Municipal Assessments/New Landowners

New Landowners and Ownership Changes

1.  Please note, the Township of Malahide only changes ownership upon written notification from MPAC (the assessment office).  Your lawyer will notify MPAC, who in turn will notify the Township of Malahide

In the interest of serving the Ratepayers in a more prompt manner, the Township will also accept a lawyers' written notification of an ownership change. However, it is important to realize that any changes made by MPAC will override the lawyer's written notification.

2.  Specifically ask your lawyer to determine if it is your responsibility to pay the taxes including any arrears.

3.  Contact the Township office at 519-773-5344 to determine if the change of ownership has been made and to determine the status of your account.  It may take several months before MPAC advises the Township Office of this change.  You may need to contact the Township several times.  Township Staff will only provide you with the financial status of your tax account when you appear as the owner on the Township records.

4. Confirm other pertinent data with the Township such as; the mailing address, establishing the account as Pre-authorized Payment or confirming the tax payment will be received from your Mortgage Company.

5.  Once the ownership has been changed, request Township Staff to send you a copy of the most recent unpaid tax bill.  Ask the Staff to advise you of any arrears or future installments.  It is your responsibility to contact the Township Office and request the financial status of your tax account.
