ANSWERS:

1.  Is the Building Permit required to be posted at the construction site?

Yes, the building permit is required to be posted in a window or other easily accessible location at the site.

 2.  How much notice is needed for the building inspector to come and perform an inspection?

All permit inspection requests should be made as soon as possible, however the law requires a minimum of 48 hours notice to complete an inspection.
If an earlier inspection time is desired the building inspector may be able to accommodate based upon his/her daily schedule. Call the Township office for specific day-to-day inspection information.

3.  What happens if work done does not meet building standards?

Conformity to the Ontario Building Code is compulsory.  If the building inspector finds non-conforming work (including building without a permit) the owner of the building and/or property may be forced to comply with the Ontario Building Code.

4.  Why should I get a building permit for a project?

Call the Township Office first to ensure a building permit is not required before you start for three reasons:

  1. If you build in the wrong place you may be required to remove the new building or complete a Minor Variance or Rezoning at your cost.
  2. Your Building Permit Fees will be doubled if you start without a permit
  3. Its the law

5.  What are the townships requirements on fencing around swimming pools?

All pools (including blow up pools) should only be installed within a fenced enclosure and in compliance with the Zoning By-Law. Please call the Township office and speak with the Building Department to get specific interpretations or answers to any particular questions you may have regarding pool fences, or pool permits.

6.  Does a septic system (new or repaired) require a permit?

Yes, a septic permit is required in all cases where an existing or new septic is constructed, altered, repaired in any manner. This includes alterations or replacement of a septic tank or pump chamber. Please contact the Building Department for more specifics.
