As of January 1st, 2024, the new 2024 Ontario Building Code is in effect. The Building Department is responsible for ensuring that all construction in the Township meets the required standards outlined in the code. Applications can be submitted using the 2012 Ontario Building Code until March 31st, 2024 if the applicant demonstrates that their working drawings were substantially complete by December 31, 2024. All applications still needs to comply with the Township of Malahide Zoning By-laws and all other applicable laws and regulations. The building permit process assures that this mandate is achieved and protects the interests of homeowners, developers and the community.
A building permit is a licence which grants legal permission to begin construction of any new structure, addition or renovation. The Building Development can provide you with the necessary forms, documents and approvals specific to your application. Although once the application is submitted, further documentation may be required if identified through the review process.
Please be advised that any additions, renovations, or improvements to your property undertaken as a result of your building permit application may lead to an increase in the assessed value of your property, as determined by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).
